CAROLINE

A huge part of me doubts Steven’s actually okay with this setup, more because it involves Edward than because he’s sharing me. I bet he’d be a lot more vocal about not liking it if he knew how tangled up Edward and I have been getting.

Why do we keep doing public dates again? I really need Steven all to myself, in private, where we can get comfortable and naughty.

And I still want to explore things with Scott and see what all our chemistry will add up to once it gets a chance, because I can’t stop thinking about him either. Maybe the make-out session was just a heat-of-the-moment kind of thing. I need to see him again to figure it out. Although, that’s easier said than done, considering I’m living with Edward now.

If Cal and I are living with Edward, even temporarily, then I’m going to have to introduce my men to each other at some point so that I can continue seeing them with no one getting their feelings hurt.

“I just need to work,” I tell myself. “I have the app, the system checks, the hacking program to monitor. I just need to… focus.”

“Easier said than done, huh?” A voice at my door makes me jump.

Luke waves. “Hey.”

“Did we have a meeting today?” I ask, shuffling through papers and then pulling up the calendar on my computer.

“First, no. Second, you need a chill pill, Caroline.” Luke drops into the chair in front of my desk. He lounges in it, then motions to me. “Are you getting laid enough?”

“Luke!” I gasp, looking at the door like Edward will appear from the question alone.

“It’s an honest question. Anytime I’ve seen someone as stressed as you, they need to blow off some steam. I don’t know who you’re into, but I have references for my wing manning skills.”

“We’ve never hung out beyond the office,” I say.

“So we go out to a bar. I see what kind of man or woman you’re into and we make this shit happen. It doesn’t have to be love, it can just be fun,” Luke says. “Plus, I have a feeling between the two of us, we can spot a good man for me to take home too.”

I laugh and feel my chest expand. The next few breaths do something. It’s a miracle. I sigh. “Thank you. I needed that.”

“I’m being serious. My California king is feeling a little too big at the moment. Plus, I miss the cute morning-after stuff.”

“I thought it was all confused awkwardness,” I point out. “You know, trying to figure out when the person’s leaving if they’ll call again, the worry of them seeing you fresh out of bed.”

“I wake up like this,” Luke motions to his perfect suit, well-styled hair, and soft skin.

We both chuckle and I sigh. “We should focus on work.”

“Yeah, you said that to yourself, which is what gave me the whole ‘need to get laid’ idea.”

“You’re not worried about the boss overhearing that?” I glance at the door.
